Staney About
"Catzilla vs. The World" Yet even with a lack of talent, skill, budget, or even a questionably normal mind, they had somehow struck gold in their 6th grade masterpiece, "Catzilla vs. The World." The idea was - despite what you might be assuming by the title - to make a giant-monster-takes-over-the-world movie starring John McRae's huge black cat, P.J. (God rest her soul). The rest of the characters were their miscellaneous action figures on fishing line, and the script was entirely impromptu. One would expect a film made by 11-year olds to be lame at best, but truth be told, a lot of very memorable lines of script spontaneously combusted from this film, and it became an inside joke (like everything else in their lives) that they continually referenced for the next 10 years. Memorable lines such as "Such a crazy kid, GOING OUT ON HIS OWN!" and "Are you ready to FLY, captain?" "You betcha!" "Well... uh... don't fly... I've lost too many men already..." "Oh, ok, well... I'll just... go do bunk duty then..." and the unforgettable eulogy of Samuel L. Morris, for "giving up his.... body, for the army." Many years after the film's creation, John had stumbled upon it cleaning out his closet one day in high school, and upon revisiting the film, he and Andy realized that they really did have a gem of a film at their tender age then. This film had surprising symbolic undertones, impressive special effects quite honestly, and the biggest surprise, a linear plot line that actually made sense! What's stranger was... just how popular this stupid film by 11-year olds was in the dorms! Inspired by their ... well, retarsion, they decided that nearly 10 years later, with a handful of dollars and a lot more know-how, that they could create a new masterpiece. And thus, Van Staney was born. Catzilla vs. The World is included in the DVD as an homage to their past, and to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of their collective work together.
